We were fortunate to have a wonderful guest lead our STEM session today. Tying in with our Science unit on Living Things, Dr Katie Moon (Molly's Mum) lead our discussion on how plants are named, classified and recorded. Dr Moon collaborated with the Eurobodalla Botanical Gardens to secure us some cuttings of a variety of native plants. The children had a close look at their features, learned their scientific names, along with their common names, and learned about how they were classified. They then completed identification tags for their cuttings and mounted them on card to create magnificent herbarium specimens. Please take the time to have a peek at them on display in your child's classroom. We extend a huge thank you to Dr Moon, along with Luke at the Bontical Gardens for guiding and assisting our young scientists today.

Our award winners this week looked a little different than usual and received their awards in front a large crowd today!
What a wonderful bunch of book characters we had arrive at school for our book week parade today. We truly do have some creative families out there - and what a perfect way to celebrate books and reading! Thank you to everyone for making the effort. Our Kindergarten students were fortunate to have 4H visit to share books for Book Week this week. They had chosen their own books, practised reading and even prepared props! The 4H students presented their books extremely well and our Kindergarten students were delighted to have them visit. Thank you 4H! Our challenge in STEM was linked to our introduction to Child Protection focusing on protection. During our Child Protection program we discussed protection and the ways parents and family protect us and how objects such as helmets and shin guards protect us. Our STEM challenge criteria were to make something that protects and to explain how it protects and what it protects us from. See the slide show below to share some of the great work the students produced. Mrs Dunn and the students in KD are very lucky to have Miss Gill in our classroom to complete her final practical teaching experience before qualifying as a teacher. We hope she enjoys her time with us. Please take a moment to read about Miss Gill and pop in to say hello in person if you are in the school.
