Harmony Day celebrates Australia's cultural diversity. It's about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Harmony Week in Kindergarten saw us get an insight into Japan, Korea, Egypt and Aboriginal Australia. We read the story Suki's Kimono, about a girl in Japan and painted kimonos with watercolours; we watched a video message from Mrs West's friend Demi, in Korea and she read us a story in Korean; we made our very own Egyptian musical instrument, a sistrum, from forked sticks, wire and buttons and acted out the Aboriginal Dreaming story of How the Birds Got their Colours. Our assembly featured the song "We are Australian" which reinforces the cultural diversity in Australia along with a strong sense of belonging.
We finished off the week with our STEM challenge where we used a variety of colours, textures and shapes to create 'something special". The criteria was that they must have used at least 5 different pieces. These pieces must work together to create something special. There were some wonderful creations which can been seen in the slide show below.
