We were fortunate to have a visit from the Lyneham High School band today. They kept us entertained with their fabulous tunes and we learned a lot about different musical instruments. Thank you Lyneham High School! Mrs Dunn organised a fabulous art lesson for us all this week! We looked at some of the artwork of Spanish surrealist Joan Miro. The students drew different motifs of one of Miro's pieces onto each side of the net of a dice - then folded it and secured it ready to roll. They then rolled their dice, and drew that motif onto their large piece of art paper. The end result was a piece of unique, individual artwork inspired by Miro - and no two pieces were the same. The Kindy students thoroughly enjoyed the lesson and were really impressed with their artwork. Congratulations to a bunch of our Kindergarten students on receiving their gold awards - we lined the stage last week! Here are a few of them on stage :O)
Kindergarten are currently exploring the Science Unit of Move It! To being our unit, we have been looking at how things move, and more specifically, how different things can roll and slide. The students helped to formulate a definition of what it means to roll and slide, and what properties something needs to have in order to roll or slide. They investigated, tested and categorised different objects into what could slide and roll and placed different objects into a venn diagram to record their findings. For our STEM challenge, the students used various materials to design and create something that would roll down a ramp. They came up with some very innovative designs and we all enjoyed watching them being tested, modified and tested again. Well done to our Kindy engineers! Meet Freddy the frog... Freddy moves in huge leaps by bending his legs to crouch down to spring high into the air. Freddy's best friend is Silky the silk worm. Silky will soon spin a cocoon and change into a moth. Her biggest wish before this change, is to be able to jump and leap like her best friend Freddy. The STEM challenge today was to design something to help Silky to do this! The students came up with some very creative designs - some could be patented we believe! We had a jolly jumper, springy attachable legs, platforms/cradles with springs, amusement rides and many more! Check out the slideshow below... and if you're interested, pop in to say hello to the real live silkworms in our classrooms! Kindergarten have been improving their ball skills at the AFL clinic run by Matt Johnston. They have improved their kicking, hand balling and agility and have had lots of fun!
Thanks Matt! |
